Gujarat: Around 1 AM on Saturday night, the fire broke out in the ICU Ward of Welfare Hospital in Bharuch which brought chaos in the city as patients in serious condition were already admitted in those wards.
This incident cost nearly 18 coronavirus patients and 2 nurses live. Although the fire was controlled by the firefighters within an hour and rescued around 50 patients by a joint operation by firefighters, Hospital Staff & locals available during the incident. The locals broke the windows and tried to rescue as many as possible, reported by officials.
Adding to that, there were around 27 patients fighting for their life in the ICU Ward when the fire broke out and what caused the fire is not yet found out which will be investigated. For now, they are shifted to other nearby hospitals.
After the incident, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani condemned the incident and said “I express my condolences to the patients, doctors and hospital staff who lost their lives in the fire accident at Bharuch Hospital. The state government will provide assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each of the victims of the accident”.

CM Rupani has also directed the top officials to investigate the incident that happened late at night. This team includes 2 Senior IAS officers — Vipul Mitra, Additional Chief Secretary (Labour & Employment) — Rajkumar Beniwal, Commissioner (Municipalities) — to immediately rush for Bharuch to investigate the fire incident at a COVID Care Centre and strict actions to be taken against responsible officials.
