On Saturday, Ajay Devgn was one of the twitter trending topic after he announced the new release date of his forthcoming movie Maidaan will now be releasing on August 13, 2021. The film which was earlier planned to hit the theatre screens on December 11, 2020.
Maidaan is an upcoming bollywood biographical sports film inspired by the Indian Football Team coach and manager Syed Abdul Rahim, who is regarded as the architect of modern Indian Football. The movie will tell the story of Indian Football golden era of 1952-1962.
Ajay Devgn will portray Syed Abdul Rahim, who served as football coach and manager of India from 1950 until his demise in 1963. He was a teacher by profession, but he was a big motivator and his term as a coach is considered as a “golden age” of football in India.
He guided the Indian Football Team to the Semi-Finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Football tournament making India the first-ever Asian country to accomplish this place. There are many more big achievements by the legendary coach of the Indian Football Team.
The Autobiography film features Ajay Devgn and Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh. It is being directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma & jointly co-produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios.

This is the third time the date of release has been postponed. Earlier, it was delayed from November 27 to December 11, 2020. Now, it has been again delayed to Independence Day of 2021.
Earlier this year, Ajay Devgn shared the first look poster of the movie in january and he wrote: “Yeh kahaani hai Indian football ke golden phase ki aur uske sabse badey aur successful coach ki (This is the story of Indian football’s golden phase and of its biggest and most success coach).“
The movie will also release in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Ajay Devgn’s upcoming projects also include movies like Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi (in a cameo appearance) and Bhuj: The Pride Of India, which is scheduled to release on Disney+Hotstar.
