Atleast 11 dead after Massive Crane Collapse at Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Vizag

On Saturday afternoon, at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in Vishakhapatnam, while the management was performing load-testing trails and within a few minutes of the trail, the massive crane collapsed.

This incident resulted in eleven people passed away and three members are seriously injured after a crane fell down. The deceased have been identified as four regular employees of the HSL and seven contract employees.

On Saturday, HSL with its electrical wing persons, lead engineers and local contractors was performing the test when this incident happens.

Soon, the ambulance and police vehicles were seen rushing into the shipyard complex.

This was the new crane that was acquired from Anupam Crane Company in Mumbai as part of up-gradation of cranes in HSL. But Anupam Crane Company didn’t conduct the trial run during delivery.

The state tourism minister M Srinivasa Rao has called an inquiry and to take rapid action into the incident. He authorized the city police commissioner and district collector to verify the facts by visiting the HSL.

The Hindustan Shipyard Limited is a government investment, located in the coastal city of Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. It is involved in shipbuilding, ship repairs, submarine construction and refits as well as design and construction of offshore and onshore structures.
