Making an architectural Marvel in the middle of the mighty Thar Desert sounds difficult? But they did it!

“Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao” a famous quote that was adopted by India. The motive behind these words was to empower women and make them self-independent on their own. To make it truly possible, we need to give equal opportunities to grow from childhood. The stronger roots will result in better growth for future opportunities.

With the ideology of empowering girls, a school that is no less than an architectural marvel has been made in a rural area in the middle of the dusty Thar Desert region. The building has been built by the CITTA, a New York-based non-profit organization in Kanoi village which is 35 km far from their Jaisalmer city fort.

Rajkumari Ratnavati Girls’ School is the name of this building which will be a symbol of girl’s education & empowerment. It has been built by yellow sandstone, with no air condition inside but made with an intelligent design that will keep sun harsh light out of the structure to keep it cool.

The images of architectural marvel designed by Diana Kellogg have gone viral after IRS Officer Gautam shared it on the Twitter platform applauding the initiative of the school. This will facilitate around 400 girls from kindergarten to Class X.

These oval-shaped building will have many facilities like exhibition space for local artisans, textile museum & performance hall for the special show during local events as well festivals. A special class for women will also be available to learn new skills for crafting.

During the interview of Diana Kellogg, the designer of this architectural marvel she told that idea came from village surroundings. While the main motive was to encourage the concept of sustainability and not modernize with western cultural ideas.

“The oval shape works, as it symbolizes womanhood across many cultures. The symbol projects infinity and complements the landscape of dunes that merges with the school. It is also how the children play in circles or the women work in a community,” said Diana during her interview by The Better India.

The idea of working behind this project was started in 2014. After the final design, the construction started in October 2018 with the help of local workers and took nearly one year to complete.
