Death Toll in Idduki Landslide rises to 15 after Kerala Heavy Rain, left many injured

The heavy rainfall for the past four days have resulted in a landslide today at Rajmalai in Idukki district which left nearly 15 people dead and many injured.

The Kerala Health Minister has also sent a mobile medical team and 15 ambulances at the location.

Today, PM Modi also expressed grief over the happening. He added “Pained by the loss of lives due to landslide in Rajamalai, Idukki. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. NDRF and the administration are working on the ground, providing assistance to the affected.”

The Ex-gratia of about Rs. 5 lakh is declared by CM Pinarayi Vijayan who have lost their lives due to Landslide. While in a press meeting, he also added: “The state government will bear the expense of treatment of those injured due to the landslide.”

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that there will be extremely heavy rainfall in coming hours in Kerala.

A red alert has been issued in four districts, which are – Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Wayanad and Idukki. The red alert districts were likely to receive rainfall above 204.5 mm within 24 hours, IMD said and asked people in the districts to remain alert.
