The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have come together with Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) to introduce the indigenous Covid-19 vaccine named “COVAXIN”.
The Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila has similarly got the green light to proceed into Phase I and II human trials being another Covid-19 vaccine candidate.
With drug manufacturers across the globe finding it complicated to invent a vaccine for Covid-19 and here India has obtained 2 approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to perform human trials.
The ICMR partnered with BBIL anticipates for launching the indigenous vaccine on 15th August after completion of clinical trials. The ICMR has authorized 12 institutes to fast track clinical trials of the vaccine, an officer said on Thursday.

To step up these measures, ICMR has also written to all stockholders to treat it as one of the top-priority operations. It will be regulated by the topmost level of the government.

On Friday, coronavirus cases in India recorded more than 6 lakh cases with over 19,000 deaths.
