BMC decides to close down all liquor shops, after breaking the Social Distancing rules

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation, on Tuesday, ordered that all the Liquor Shops in Mumbai will remain closed from Wednesday morning. This hasty step was taken by BMC after huge crowd have generated chaos by thronging the liquor shops and which unable police also to regulate the crowd.

Pravin Pardeshi, Mumbai Municipal commissioner has issued an order that only groceries, medical/ chemist shops will be allowed to be opened from Wednesday.

According to Pardeshi’s order on Tuesday “There are numerous reports, news in social media and inputs obtained from the police and the ward officials that due to above relaxation there have been huge crowds gathering near these Liquor shops and where it has been impossible to maintain social distancing and there were few instances of law and order situation arising out of such crowds huddling at one place.”

He also mentioned that Mumbai city is still detecting a rise in a number of positive cases and downward slop is yet to arrive. At this juncture, this type of huge crowd together shattering the laws of social distancing can produce new problems and the purpose of the lockdown can be misplaced soon if steps of shutting down the Liquor shops will not be carried.

The Mumbai, one of India’s cash-rich state is still having a surge in the number of Coronavirus cases. It is currently having 9,758 cases and 387 deaths. On average, more than 400 cases emerging per day.
